What to expect
Pick-up is around an hour before dawn, which is the only unwelcome part. You watch the envelope inflate in the dark, climb into the basket, and the ground drops away just as the light arrives — Berber villages, olive groves and irrigation channels below, and the entire snow line of the High Atlas going pink along the southern horizon.
Flights last around 40 minutes to an hour depending on the wind, followed by breakfast in a Berber tent at the landing site and a flight certificate. The whole outing takes three to four hours door to door. Flights depend on weather and are confirmed the evening before.
