The M’goun Gorges, Morocco’s Most Beautiful

 


This hike will allow you to discover Ait Bouguemaz, known as the “happy valley,” rich with barley and wheat fields, fruit trees (apple, apricot, walnut, and others). A valley also rich with its population and the typically Berber architecture of adobe houses. You will experience wonderful moments of discovery.

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Arrival at Marrakech Airport, welcome, and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Marrakech – Azilal – Bouguemaz

A day of transfer through several small towns and villages until Azilal. Lunch, then cross the Aghbar Pass (2300m) in the afternoon, with a beautiful view of the Sremt region, the Ait Abbas valley, and a fabulous panorama of the entire M’goun range. Descend to the happy valley, arrival at the guesthouse, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3: The Happy Valley – Tighremt n’Ait Ahmed (2250m)

Your first day of hiking begins by crossing the village of Ait Imi, amid fields of wheat and barley, walnut and apple trees. Arrive at the source, a steady climb leads to the Ait Imi Pass (2905m), with a panoramic view of the summits: Tizal, Ouaouguelzate, Azurki, Iguoudamen, and M’goun, along with a beautiful panorama of the entire happy valley. Descend to the ancient collective granary, bivouac at 2250m, 6 hours of hiking. Positive elevation: 900m. Negative elevation: 650m.

Day 4: Tighremt n’Ait Ahmed – Imi N’nirkt

A day of discovery in the M’goun valley, with extraordinary landscapes, crossing several typical Berber villages, observing their way of life and traditional costumes. A day truly worth experiencing, with your cameras ready. Lunch during the hike, then continue to the small village of Imi N’irkte (1900m). Bivouac, 6 hours of hiking. Negative elevation: 350m.

Day 5: Imi N’nirkt – Tiranimine

Pass through the M’goun gorges, the most impressive in Morocco, with beautiful landscapes not to be missed. Lunch at the exit of the gorges, then continue to the village of Tiranimine (1790m). Bivouac or overnight stay with locals, 6 hours of hiking. Negative elevation: 110m. Note: You’ll be wading through water all day.

Day 6: Tiranimine – Boutaghrar

Continue descending the M’goun valley, still wading through water. Pass through the Aguerzaka gorges, with many natural pink laurels on the banks of the wadi. Cross several villages, ending the day at the village of Boutaghrar (1700m). Settle into the guesthouse, dinner, and overnight stay with a hot shower. 6 hours of hiking. Negative elevation: 90m.

Day 7: Boutaghrar – Marrakech

Return transfer through the rose valley, the Skoura palm grove, and Ouarzazate, crossing the Tichka Pass (2260m). Lunch en route, arrive in Marrakech, settle into the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to the airport, assistance with departure formalities.
